Police officers used racial profiling
According to the Boston.com news, the complaint says that police officers used racial profiling in their handling of Medford teenagers. A couple of teenagers were driving through Medford, where they'd both graduated from high school, on a hot July day last year. According to a lawsuit filed by Lawyers for Civil Rights Boston, Mamousette spotted a police cruiser following him as he drove through the Winthrop Street traffic circle to High Street. Other cruisers were in the area, and some were doing U-turns to keep up with the vehicle. According to the lawsuit, officers eventually allowed Mamousette and Warsame go after performing a traffic stop, holding them at gunpoint, and searching the vehicle, claiming they'd received an anonymous tip that the two had a gun in the car. The encounter was dubbed "protocol" by one of the policemen. Read more.
